FAQ

Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, etc., is a comprehensive evidence-based healthcare system that treats acute and chronic disorders. It also promotes preventative healthcare by supporting a strong immune system that helps people better resist illness.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a healthcare modality developed in China over 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture promotes natural healing and improves many physiological functions by the insertion of sterilized and disposable stainless-steel needles that are as fine as human hair into specific points located near or on the surface of the skin.  The acupuncturists selected special points to positively affect both the central and peripheral nervous systems, increase proper blood flow to the symptomatic areas, and enhance the overall healthy functioning of the entire human body. Acupuncture influences the body’s various systems’ ability to balance itself: hormonal, digestive, circulatory, neurological, muscular, and mental. It also triggers the release of the body’s internal chemicals, such as endorphins and enkephalins, which have pain-relieving properties.

The basic foundation for Chinese Medicine is that there is vital energy flowing through the body called Qi. This energy flows through the body through different channels known as “meridians” that connect all of the body’s major organs. According to Chinese medical theory, illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes unbalanced or is blocked.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is the foundation of the Chinese medical system. Herbal medicines are made from natural ingredients. Herbal prescriptions come in many forms such as teas, pills, powders, and raw herbs. Chinese herbal medicine is used in hospitals in China along with Allopathic medicine. Over 300 herbs are used in various combinations to promote a more balanced system. Herbalists are trained to evaluate and prescribe the correct combination of herbs for each individual to address specific issues. We provide high-quality, custom-powdered prescriptions, easily mixed with warm water and taken as teas. It is important in herbal medicine that prescriptions be formulated and developed individually. Each formula is customized for your individual needs based on your condition.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist uses special cups applied to certain parts of the body using a vacuum effect. In traditional Chinese Medicine, cupping is said to stimulate the flow of vital energy (known as “Qi”) and blood, and to help correct any imbalances arising from illness or injury. It is used for many purposes, including to help with cold, pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and well-being.
